What is an AI call summary?
An AI call summary is a short written recap of a phone call, generated automatically from the transcript, covering key points and next steps.
Why it matters for sales teams
Writing call notes is part of after-call work, and it is the part reps skip when they are busy. An AI summary gives every call a consistent record: who was on the call, what they need, which objections came up and the agreed next steps.
Good summaries save the next person who touches the account from replaying the recording. They also make CRM data more complete without asking reps to type more.
Example
After a ten-minute call, the summary on the contact record reads: "Prospect runs a six-person outbound team. Pain: reps lose time between calls. Concern: price per seat. Next step: demo on Thursday with their sales director." The rep checks it, fixes one detail and moves on.
What to check
A summary depends on the transcription behind it, so poor audio leads to gaps or errors. Reps should be able to edit it, and teams should know where summaries are stored and who can see them, since calls can contain personal data.
