What is B2B contact data?

B2B contact data is information for reaching people at businesses, such as names, job titles, work emails, direct dials and company details.

Why it matters for sales teams

Outbound sales runs on contact data. Reps need to know whom to contact at an account and how to reach them. The quality of that data limits everything downstream: a perfect script does not help if the number is disconnected or reaches the wrong person.

Typical B2B contact records include:

  • Person: name, job title, department, seniority
  • Channels: work email, direct dial, mobile number, company switchboard
  • Company: name, website, industry, size, location

Example

An SDR targeting finance leaders pulls 300 contacts for a campaign. Records with a verified direct dial and mobile number go into the call queue first. Records with only a switchboard number go to a separate list, where reps expect to speak with a gatekeeper first.

What to watch

Contact data goes out of date as people change jobs and numbers, so freshness matters as much as coverage. Teams also need to collect and use it lawfully. Rules on calling, emailing and storing personal data differ by country, and business contacts are not always exempt: in the US, for example, the FTC says the CAN-SPAM Act makes no exception for business-to-business email.

This is a general definition, not legal advice.
