What is lead enrichment?

Lead enrichment is adding missing details to lead records, such as phone numbers, job titles and company data, from outside data sources.

Why it matters for sales teams

Leads often arrive incomplete. A form might capture only a name and email, and an imported list might lack phone numbers or titles. Enrichment fills those gaps so reps can reach the right person, personalize outreach and route leads correctly. It matters most for phone outreach: without a working number, a lead cannot be called.

Enrichment can happen at different points: when a lead is created, before a campaign, or on a schedule to refresh older records affected by data decay.

Example

A team imports 1,000 event attendees with names, companies and emails. Before the calling campaign, the records are enriched with direct dials, mobile numbers, job titles, company size and industry. Reps can now filter to decision-makers at companies of the right size and start calling.

Lead enrichment vs data cleansing

Enrichment adds new information to a record. Data cleansing fixes or removes what is already there, such as duplicates, typos and outdated entries. Both are part of good CRM hygiene.
