What is a preview dialer?
A preview dialer shows a rep the next contact's details before the call and dials only once the rep is ready to go.
Why it matters for sales teams
Preview dialing trades speed for preparation. The rep reads the account, past notes and the reason for the call, then starts the call. That suits complex sales, high-value accounts and follow-ups where an unprepared opener would waste the conversation.
The cost is time. Every preview adds seconds or minutes before each dial, so reps make fewer attempts per hour than with a progressive dialer or a parallel dialer.
Example
An account executive is calling back 30 prospects who attended a webinar. For each one, the preview screen shows the company, job title, which sessions they joined and any earlier emails. The rep takes a moment to choose an angle, then clicks to dial. Some preview dialers also let the rep skip a record that is not worth calling today.
Preview dialer vs manual dialing
With manual dialing, the rep finds the contact and enters or clicks the number themselves. A preview dialer still queues the list and places the call, so the rep does not hunt for the next record, but nothing rings until they are ready.
