What is a parallel dialer?
A parallel dialer is software that calls several phone numbers at the same time for one rep and connects the rep to the first person who answers.
Why it matters for sales teams
Much of a cold caller's day goes to ringing phones, voicemail boxes and numbers nobody picks up. A parallel dialer works through several of those attempts at once, so the rep spends more of the hour talking to people and less of it waiting.
For a sales manager, the useful number is not dials but conversations per hour. Parallel dialing raises the number of attempts each rep can make without adding headcount, which is the appeal for teams that call cold lists.
Example
A rep has a list of 200 contacts. With manual dialing, they call one number, wait for it to ring out, log the result and move on. With a parallel dialer, several numbers ring at once. When one person answers, the rep is connected to that call and the other attempts end. The rep talks, logs the outcome, and the next set of calls starts.
Parallel dialer vs predictive dialer
A predictive dialer serves a pool of agents and paces dialing from estimates of who will be free next. A parallel dialer serves one rep and dials several lines on that rep's behalf. A power dialer is the one-line version: it calls one number at a time for one rep, moving to the next number automatically.
