What is connection delay?

Connection delay is the gap between a prospect answering a call and actually hearing the rep on the line.

Why it matters for sales teams

People recognize the pause. A prospect who answers and hears silence, or a click before a voice, may guess it is an automated call and hang up. Even a short delay makes the opener harder, because the first thing the prospect experiences is waiting. The result is dead air and lost conversations.

With manual dialing, the rep is already on the line when the prospect answers. With any dialer that places calls for the rep, how long the prospect waits varies from product to product, which is why it is worth hearing for yourself before you buy.

How to evaluate it

Ask vendors for a live test, not a demo recording. Have the dialer call your own phone, answer, say hello and listen for how long it takes to hear the rep. Try it several times and on different networks. Then compare that experience with a plain phone call from a colleague. If you would hang up on the dialer's version, assume your prospects would too.
